To fully understand how each and every oil performs in reducing friction under strict test conditions, over 60 oil samples were independently sent to Optimol Lubricants located in Munich, Germany. Optimol manufacture, calibrate and conduct stringent testing with a SRV machine (short for Schwingung, Reibung, und Verschleiss, which translated into English means Oscillating, Friction, and Wear). This machine and test method is used throughout the world by lubricant manufacturers, car manufacturers and engineers in evaluating the relationship of a fluid to a solid material - such as oil protecting metal.

How stringent is the test

The SRV test method follows the SAE test parameters using the SAE Technical Paper 952533. This same test is used by Toyota globally in evaluating oils performance in their engines. The test does not require human interaction and cannot be manipulated providing a consistent and unbiased result each and every time.

The independent oil collectors

Unbiased & untouched. From the shop to the lab, how the oil was supplied.

To ensure each oil was legitimately collected and wasn't tampered with in any way, an independent third party was used to send over all the oils to Optimol Instruments.

ALS Group is a global testing and service facility around lubricants and consists of approximately 300 laboratories in over 50 countries across Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, North America and South America.

ALS were supplied unopened oil bottles directly off the shelf from the automotive stores around Australia. Their job was to open the bottles, document, batch and categorize each individual oil and post 100gms of each oil to Optimol Instruments. All oils were sent in new PET sample jars to avoid any contamination or changes to the oil.
